Q: How did you get the position of stage manager?
A: Ms. Phillips and Mr. Gillette just asked and I said yes, but I had time to think about it because I knew it was going to be very stressful.
Q: What responsibilities come with the job?
A: I learned a lot, from not to be late to rehearsals, to all my cues in a short period of time, and I had to work on communicating with my director, Ms. Phillips.
Q: Have you ever done stage management before?
A: Not for big productions, but I have stage managed smaller winter concerts.
Q: How did you prepare for the job?
A: I didn’t actually have a lot of ways to prepare, it was more of a “wing it” situation, because tech rehearsals were pretty short and we didn’t have a lot of time to get ready.
Q: Did you have any challenges and difficulties during rehearsals?
A: Yes I did. Tech didn’t have enough time to rehearse the whole show and it is difficult to call out tech cues without practicing the scenes. I think the most challenging scene in the show in is Without Love, because I need to call 5 light cues in a minute and these cues need to be called on time.
Q: In what ways is being stage manager stressful?
A: When rehearsal is not going smooth and you have bajillion homework, projects, quizzes, and tests to study for. I always stay up late to finish my homework and study for tests and that makes me really tired the next day.
Q:What are some memorable moments from rehearsals?
My most memorable moments are dinner break, super fast tech cues, and Mr. Gillette punching the table.
Q: Would you do it again in the future?
A: I would. Actually, I selected tech theatre as my college minor so hopefully I will get to work on larger productions of Hairspray in the future.
Q: Would you pursue a career in tech theatre?
A: Well, as of right now I’m not too sure, I just kind of selected it as a minor too have some fun in college.
Q: What do you want to say to the people coming to the show?
A: I hope that all the audiences can enjoy this show and thank you for coming!
Q: Do you have any shout outs?
A: I want to give a shout out to my wonderful tech crew, thank you for all your hard work and you guys are amazing. Also, I want to thank Ms. Phillips and Mr Gillette for giving me this great opportunity to challenge myself. Finally, I want to thank my family and my best friend, Rebecca Truong, for all the supports and encouragements.
